Philip Bush Member profile

Captain : Philip Bush

Role: Left Handed Top Order Batsman
Nickname: Bushy
Barbarians No: 23

Bushy is a talented opening batsman who has success in recent seasons scoring runs for both the first and second teams. In 2011 he replaced Richard Edmands as second team captain and led the team to a respectable midtable finish in third division of the Middlesex Cricket League.

2012 proved to be one of the finest of his Bessborough career. He was the club's leading run scorer with 734 runs in all competitions at an average of just under 30. His 734 runs included nine 50s. In Saturday League cricket he averaged just over 30 and scored 491 runs and more impressively led his Second Eleven to an impressive fourth in the table.

He is a powerful striker of a cricket ball who is particularly strong on the offside. He scored a memorable hundred for our second eleven in 2008 against a strong Enfield side, this was his second hundred for the club. He likes the ball coming onto the bat as most opening batsmen do. Bushy is also an adventurous captain who is never afraid to take a risk on the field.

He is also part of Bessborough furniture after spending large parts of his childhood at the club with his father Nick being a star batsman for the second and third eleven’s in the 1980s and 1990s.

Adil Parker Member profile

Vice Captain : Adil Parker

Role: Right Handed Opening Batsman and Wicket-Keeper
Nickname: Dildo
Barbarians No: 12

Dildo is one of the busiest members of the Borough on Saturday’s during the season as he combines his role Second Eleven vice-captain, Wicket-Keeper and Opening Batsman. He has been the leading batsman for the second eleven in the last 4 seasons and is Bushy’s chief Lieutenant on the field.

As a batsman, Dildo has evolved from a big hitting middle to lower order dasher to a cultured and correct opening batsman. He has retained his elegance but he has become much more patient at building an innings and has scored consistently in recent seasons. He also has the ability to improvise with his big hitting and his delicate cuts and flicks and even some reverse sweeps.

He has always been an exceptional wicket-keeper who has taken some brilliant catches over the years and is exceptional standing up to the spinners.

In 2012 he had an exceptional season with both bat and gloves. He was the fourth highest run scorer with 535 runs at an average of 23.26 with a highest score of 80. With the gloves he claimed 30 victims with an incredible tally of 19 victims.

Barbarians No: 6

Vin has progressed through our second and third teams in recent seasons and has now become a dependable middle order bat for the second eleven. Vin is an elegant stroke maker who can make the game look very easy with shots all around the ground.

His best moment for the club was when he scored his first hundred – he scored 101 not out for the third eleven a couple of seasons ago. Vin has a decent pair of hands and is a decent cover fielder.

The Captains' Award: 2011

Andy Carr Member profile Andy Carr

Role: Right Handed Middle Order Batsman
Nickname: Geezer, Spalding, George
Barbarians No: 7

Geezer even in his early 40s is still one of the most important players at the club both on and off the field. He does so much work behind the scenes which a lot of club members don’t realise.

He had a brilliant season in 2012 scoring a highly impressive 626 runs at 28.45. He struck four 50s and only Phil Bush scored more runs than him in 2012.

As a Junior he played in the same side as former England batsman Mark Ramprakash and has stayed with the club he joined in the late 1970s.

He is a hard hitting middle order batsman that hits the ball all around the ground. He is brutal against all types of bowling but is particularly savage against spin bowling. He is the best sweepers of a ball at the club, he is able to play all manner of sweep shots hitting the ball all around the leg side.

He has scored 15 centuries for the Borough over the years including a Twenty20 hundred in a Mayor of Harrow game at Pinner coming in at number 5.

As a bowler he started off as a canny off break bowler but his greatest success was as a medium pace seamer for the first and second elevens. Always bowling full and straight, Geezer always concurred with the saying ‘they miss and you hit’. He has plenty of variation and has been a regular wicket taker. Due a shoulder injury which has worsened in recent seasons, Geezer decided to retire from bowling in 2012.

Geezer is still an excellent fielder with a brilliant pair of hands and before a shoulder injury he had one of the longest arms that the club has seen.

Jay Chavda Member profile Jay Chavda

Role: Right Arm Fast Medium Bowler
Nickname: Chav, JayDog
Barbarians No: 69

Jay was a revelation in 2011 when he finally emerged from his brother’s shadow and put in some exceptional performances with the ball leading the Second Eleven attack on Saturday’s and the First Eleven on Sundays. He rightly won the Most Improved Player for the club in 2011.

Jay is a swing bowler who bowls with great control and often does an excellent holding job without always getting the wickets that he deserves. He is also a brilliant Twenty20 bowler who is exceptional at bowling at the end of innings.

In 2012, JayDog's performances carried on where he had left off in the previous season picking up 26 wickets at an average of 19.54. The highlight was a 5 wicket haul against South Hampstead 2nds in August.

Chav is a very underrated batsman who very often has to bat at the business end and he does hit a long ball and he is also an excellent fielder. He scored an excellent 50 on tour at Lydney in 2012 which helped set up a close win.

He is a great character off the field due to his comedy and camp dress sense. He is also an excellent cameraman who takes some great photos which appear on this site.

Rohan Desai Member profile Rohan Desai

Role: Right Arm Fast Bowler
Nickname: Des, Del

City Trader in the week, Play-boy cricketer at the weekend. Meet Rohan 'Des' Desai, a key man in Phil Bush's second eleven side.

Des is a bustling and aggressive opening bowler, who leaves everything on the field. He is another member of our highly successful Colts setup and since finishing university he has become an integral part of our side.

He uses every part of his 6ft 3in frame to generate as much pace as possible and when he is on song he bowls a searing pace. He is a real in your face quick bowler in the mould of Australian bowler Peter Siddle. In 2012 he picked up 18 wickets including a match winning 6-78 for our second eleven in our win over South Hampstead.

He is no mug with the bat either who is capable of blocking up and end or giving the ball a good whack. Surprisingly for a quick bowler he is an excellent fielder.

Richard Edmands Member profile Richard Edmands

Role: Right Handed Middle Order Batsman and Leg Break Bowler
Nickname: Ed and The Bear
Barbarians No: 20

Ed is a former Second Team captain and current club treasurer who has been at the club for over 10 years now after moving down from Yorkshire. He is also current vice-captain of the Barbarians Twenty20 team. He is a very popular member of the Borough and a big character on the field and in the bar.

In recent seasons Ed has dropped down into the middle order after spending the majority of his early Bessborough career as an opening batsman, although he still bats at the top of the order in Twenty20 cricket. He is an excellent accumulator of runs. Ed is very comfortable against spin bowling in which he loves to sweep and use his feet.

Ed is also a more than handy leg break bowler who has picked up many wickets in his career including a 7-80 against South Hampstead a few seasons ago. What Ed lacks in control he makes up with the amount of turn he gets.

He is an aggressive attacking swing bowler who has come on leaps and bounds in recent seasons. Niv has often performed the role as a death bowler and he has an excellent slower ball.

As a batsman,Niv is also very talented, but in recent seasons he has found himself slipping lower down the order and although he has not had many opportunities recently, he has still lots of ability and is awaiting the opportunity to score runs.

Off the field,Niv is a great crack and he is the only Borough player ever to bowl wearing a pink alice band.

He is also a much improved fielder who is good all round the field, whether at slip or in the outfield.
