Bessborough Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI squad

SATURDAY FOURTH ELEVEN

Bessborough's Fourth Eleven play in Division 5 of the 1987 Cricket League, finishing in a very creditable fourth place in the 2012 season.

The team's captain again for the coming season is our press officer Simon Heaney, ably supported by his vice Richard Ward, club secretary.

The Fourth team have been
successful in giving many of Bessborough's talented young colts their first taste of competitive seniors’ cricket as well as being the first rung for new players joining the club.

Over the course of the 2012 season the Fours used a total of 27 players, 12 of whom were under 18 years-old and six new members who all made decent starts to their Bessborough careers.

The Fourth Eleven Player of the Season in 2012 was young colt Oscar Farr who finished as leading wicket taker with 15 at an average of just 7.1 and an economy of 2.5 runs per over. Another junior player, Ravi Vyas, was given
the club’s most improved player of the season award after taking 12 wickets at an average of 14.

Captain : Simon Heaney

Role: Right Handed Middle Order Batsman and Off Spin Bowler
Nickname: Si
Barbarians No: 75

Simon joined the club a few seasons ago and has already become a valuable club man on and the off the field. He is currently our Press Officer and Fourth Team Captain.

He is a handy middle order batsman for our third and fourth team and is also a good off break bowler who is particularly good as a twenty20 spinner in doing a holding role. In 2011 highlights for him included a brilliant opening partnership in our third eleven with James Wheeler. With our thirds chasing only 85 . . . . they put on 65 in only 10 overs as our third team cantered to victory.

As a bowler he very good in twenty20 cricket as he varies his pace and flight very often and he is very hard for batsman to target. Simon is also an excellent slip fielder.

Richard Ward Member profile

Vice Captain : Richard Ward

Role: Right Handed Middle Order Batsman & Slow Bowler
Nickname: Wardy
Barbarians No: 78

Wardy is as much improved middle order batsman for our Saturday third and fourth eleven and is also a useful slow-medium bowler. Wardy joined the club in 2007 after moving to London from the North East and he immediately set about making himself a vital member of the Borough.

Nobody works harder than Wardy in the nets all year round to improve his game and he has come on leaps and bounds in recent seasons. He is a tall man who is not afraid to give the ball a wack.

Also Wardy has taken on the role of club secretary in recent seasons and he is the leading man in driving the club on to bigger and better things off the field. He also loves a pint and can often be found propping up the bar into the early hours.

Played for Bessborough at all levels since 2005. I am not playing much cricket for the past 3 years or so.  Looking forward to start regularly next season.
Dipak Chavda Member profile Dipak Chavda

Role: Right Arm Off Spin Bowler
Nickname: Mr C

Dipak is a very underrated cricketer who is a wily old fox with the ball often getting out good batsman with a varation in flight and pace. He rarely plays at weekends now claiming he is ‘too old’ and prefers striking golf balls to cricket balls. However as Vice-Chairman he is still heavily involved at the Borough and does make fleeting appearances in our Twenty20 side.

Mr C proved that Twenty20 is not a young man’s game by winning the 2008 Twenty20 player of the Year award as voted by his team-mates. Dipak put in some excellent performances with the ball that season.

Satjeet Dhanjal Member profile Satjeet Dhanjal

Role: Right Handed MiddleOrder Batsman and Medium Fast Bowler
Nickname: Sat
Barbarians No: 27

Satjeet is another one of our group of young emerging allrounders that our Colts system has produced in recent years. He is a skiddy medium fast bowler who is quicker than he looks with his whippy action and he make makes the ball skid onto the bat a bit quicker than expected. Sat is also a good allround fielder.

He is a middle order batsman who scores quickly and he strikes a long ball. He needs to get stronger mentally and make better decisions on the cricket field as he occasionally gets a ‘brain rush’ and picks the wrong option, however he will learn this the more cricket he plays.

Sat scored a brilliant 49 in the Twenty20 Legends match in 2008 scoring runs all over the place impressing many of our returning players with his array of shots. Also he won the 2009 Captains Award for his commitment to the club.

Stephen Kimsey Member profile Stephen Kimsey

Role: Right Arm Medium Pace Bowler
Nickname: Junior
Barbarians No: 19

Steve joined the Borough in 2010 after playing against us for wandering side Paddington. He had just moved to the area and wanted to play some regular and competitive cricket. He is an up and coming bowler who bowls at no more than medium pace. He likes to bowl wicket to wicket with the keeper standing up. His style of bowling has proved very useful in the middle overs of a Twenty20 game.

He is no mug with the bat but generally finds himself batting 9, 10 or jack but he is capable of hitting a long ball. He is also a decent
outfielder with a good pair of hands.
