Nirav Ghantiwala Member profile

Captain : Nirav Ghantiwala

Role: Right Arm Fast-Medium Bowler
Nickname: Niv
Barbarians No: 17

Niv is another one of our talented young seam bowlers who is expected to lead the club onto bigger and better things in the coming seasons.

As well as being regular in our first eleven on Saturday's, for 2013 Niv has been appointed as Sunday Captain, his first senior role at the club.

He is an aggressive attacking swing bowler who has come on leaps and bounds in recent seasons. Niv has often performed the role as a death bowler and he has an excellent slower ball.

As a batsman,Niv is also very talented, but in recent seasons he has found himself slipping lower down the order and although he has not had many opportunities recently, he has still lots of ability and is awaiting the opportunity to score runs.

Off the field,Niv is a great crack and he is the only Borough player ever to bowl wearing a pink alice band.

Without a doubt IB is the most talented cricketer who the club have produced in the last 10-15 years. He is a genuine match winner with both bat and ball and is also an excellent all round fielder. Vin has progressed through our second and third teams in recent seasons and has now become a dependable middle order bat for the second eleven. Vin is an elegant stroke maker who can make the game look very easy with shots all around the ground.

His best moment for the club was when he scored his first hundred – he scored 101 not out for the third eleven a couple of seasons ago. Vin has a decent pair of hands and is a decent cover fielder.

Philip Bush Member profile Philip Bush

Role: Left Handed Top Order Batsman
Nickname: Bushy
Barbarians No: 23

Bushy is a talented opening batsman who has success in recent seasons scoring runs for both the first and second teams. In 2011 he replaced Richard Edmands as second team captain and led the team to a respectable midtable finish in third division of the Middlesex Cricket League.

2012 proved to be one of the finest of his Bessborough career. He was the club's leading run scorer with 734 runs in all competitions at an average of just under 30. His 734 runs included nine 50s. In Saturday League cricket he averaged just over 30 and scored 491 runs and more impressively led his Second Eleven to an impressive fourth in the table.

He is a powerful striker of a cricket ball who is particularly strong on the offside. He scored a memorable hundred for our second eleven in 2008 against a strong Enfield side, this was his second hundred for the club. He likes the ball coming onto the bat as most opening batsmen do. Bushy is also an adventurous captain who is never afraid to take a risk on the field.

He is also part of Bessborough furniture after spending large parts of his childhood at the club with his father Nick being a star batsman for the second and third eleven’s in the 1980s and 1990s.

Andy Carr Member profile Andy Carr

Role: Right Handed Middle Order Batsman
Nickname: Geezer, Spalding, George
Barbarians No: 7

Geezer even in his early 40s is still one of the most important players at the club both on and off the field. He does so much work behind the scenes which a lot of club members don’t realise.

He had a brilliant season in 2012 scoring a highly impressive 626 runs at 28.45. He struck four 50s and only Phil Bush scored more runs than him in 2012.

As a Junior he played in the same side as former England batsman Mark Ramprakash and has stayed with the club he joined in the late 1970s.

He is a hard hitting middle order batsman that hits the ball all around the ground. He is brutal against all types of bowling but is particularly savage against spin bowling. He is the best sweepers of a ball at the club, he is able to play all manner of sweep shots hitting the ball all around the leg side.

He has scored 15 centuries for the Borough over the years including a Twenty20 hundred in a Mayor of Harrow game at Pinner coming in at number 5.

As a bowler he started off as a canny off break bowler but his greatest success was as a medium pace seamer for the first and second elevens. Always bowling full and straight, Geezer always concurred with the saying ‘they miss and you hit’. He has plenty of variation and has been a regular wicket taker. Due a shoulder injury which has worsened in recent seasons, Geezer decided to retire from bowling in 2012.

Geezer is still an excellent fielder with a brilliant pair of hands and before a shoulder injury he had one of the longest arms that the club has seen.

Jay Chavda Member profile Jay Chavda

Role: Right Arm Fast Medium Bowler

Barbarians No: 69

Jay was a revelation in 2011 when he finally emerged from his brother’s shadow and put in some exceptional performances with the ball leading the Second Eleven attack on Saturday’s and the First Eleven on Sundays. He rightly won the Most Improved Player for the club in 2011.

Jay is a swing bowler who bowls with great control and often does an excellent holding job without always getting the wickets that he deserves. He is also a brilliant Twenty20 bowler who is exceptional at bowling at the end of innings.

In 2012, JayDog's performances carried on where he had left off in the previous season picking up 26 wickets at an average of 19.54. The highlight was a 5 wicket haul against South Hampstead 2nds in August.

Chav is a very underrated batsman who very often has to bat at the business end and he does hit a long ball and he is also an excellent fielder. He scored an excellent 50 on tour at Lydney in 2012 which helped set up a close win.

He is a great character off the field due to his comedy and camp dress sense. He is also an excellent cameraman who takes some great photos which appear on this site.

Role: Left Handed Middle Order Batsman and Occasional Wicket Keeper
Nickname: Ronnie
Barbarians No: 10

Ronnie is a very cheeky and talented batsman who’s game has really progressed in recent years. He is a very popular member of the club on and off the field.

As a batsman, Ronnie is an excellent middle order batsman. He is technically sound but his real strength at the wicket is his ability to be unorthodox. He is a wristy batsman who plays shots all around the wicket and is especially good against spin bowlers. He also offers an excellent option at the top of the order in Twenty20 cricket, taking advantage of the early overs. In 2012, Ron scored his second hundred for the club and his first League hundred with a brilliant 109 not out against South Hampstead batting at 7.

He is also a much improved fielder who is good all round the field, whether at slip or in the outfield. He took 4 catches (3 at slip) in a game in 2011 and rightly picked up the fielder of the year award. After being forced to keep wicket at university 3 seasons ago he has excelled and he now offers back up for Adil Parker in our second team on Saturday’s as well as taking the gloves when ever he can.

Nickname: Chilli
Barbarians No: 21

Chilli is very talented all round cricketer who has become a vital member of our first eleven and in 2013 he makes the step up to become Danny Hawes' assistant as first eleven vice-captain.

He is clever and canny slow left arm bowler who has excellent control of flight and spin. He often performs a holding role with the ball giving very little away.

He is also a more than capable lower order batsman who has got valuable and match winning runs down the order. As a fielder, he is brilliant at gully.

He had a brilliant 2012 season claiming 34 victims and bowling an incredible 49 maidens in 182 overs. He rightly was named first eleven player and bowler of the year for his outstanding performances.

He started off as a colt at Harrow CC before joining the Borough aged 10. He was a leading player in our junior sides captaining the U15s and U17s.

His finest performance for the Borough was in September 2009 with our second eleven needing a win to avoid relegation. A jet lagged Chilli took 5-15 with the ball as we bowled North Middlesex out for 188 and then he went out and scored his highest score of 80 to see the Borough home.

Role: Right Handed Opening Batsman and Wicket-Keeper
Nickname: Dildo
Barbarians No: 12

Dildo is one of the busiest members of the Borough on Saturday’s during the season as he combines his role Second Eleven vice-captain, Wicket-Keeper and Opening Batsman. He has been the leading batsman for the second eleven in the last 4 seasons and is Bushy’s chief Lieutenant on the field.

As a batsman, Dildo has evolved from a big hitting middle to lower order dasher to a cultured and correct opening batsman. He has retained his elegance but he has become much more patient at building an innings and has scored consistently in recent seasons. He also has the ability to improvise with his big hitting and his delicate cuts and flicks and even some reverse sweeps.

He has always been an exceptional wicket-keeper who has taken some brilliant catches over the years and is exceptional standing up to the spinners.

James Wheeler Member profile James Wheeler

Role: Right Handed Opening Batsman
Nickname: Wheels
Barbarians No: 16

A gritty top order batsman who usually plays in 2nd's and 3rd's on Saturday’s. During recent seasons he has started to bowl leg spin which he gave up in his early teens. Wheels also formed and runs our midweek twenty20 Friendly side the ' Bessborough Barbarians'.

He had an excellent 2012 season averaging over 40 in weekend cricket and with only a run of poor scores in Twenty20 cricket bringing his average below 30. In his final knock of the season he carried his bat scoring his second senior hundred with an innings of 105 not out against Bessborough Colts.

Wheels is predominately a front foot player who is very strong between point and extra cover. He loves to use his feet to all types of bowling and against spinners he looks to sweep or go inside out over the covers.

In July 2002 Wheels scored a magnificent 143 against North Middlesex 3rd team as our thirds chased 350+ to win a MCCL league game. He lists this as his top achievement along with with winning eight Middlesex trophies between 1991 and 1998 with our junior sides.

His best cricket experience was playing with eight members of the 2005 Australia touring side. Wheels batted with Simon Katich making four. He also kept wicket to Brett Lee, Michael Kasporwicz, Glenn McGrath and his idol Shane Warne.

He also played at Lords in 2011 representing his work team - Sky Sports Football Department against a NPower Select XI. He scored a brisky 19 in a comfortable win.
