Role: Left Handed Top Order
Batsman and Right Arm Medium Pace Bowler
Nickname: Riddles
Barbarians No: 83
A determined and stylish opening batsman who joined the club from rivals Harrow
St Mary’s after being persuaded to join the Borough by Second Eleven captain
Phil Bush. Ian had a superb debut season for the club, leading the second
eleven averages with the bat and offering some genuine medium pace bowling if
required.
As a batsman he is determined and gutsy at the crease and he is
particularly strong off the back foot and is very strong square of the wicket
on both sides. His best performance was against Old Actonians in July 2011 when
after bowling Actonians out for only 128, Riddles struck a majestic 93 not out
in a brilliant 9 wicket win.
He is a canny medium pace bowler who has mainly been used as a
partnership breaker at the weekend. In Twenty20 cricket Riddles has been more
successful, often opening the bowling and then finishing his overs by bowling
at the death with the wicket keeper standing up.
