Role: Right Handed Middle Order Batsman Nickname: Geezer, Spalding, George Barbarians No: 7 Geezer even in his mid 40s is still one of the most important players at the club both on and off the field. He does so much work behind the scenes which a lot of club members don’t realise. He struggled with a serious arm injury in 2013, but his return to fitness in 2014 saw him score 471 runs at an average of 39.25. 2012 was also massively impressive for Geezer when he struck 626 runs at 28.45. He struck four 50s and only Phil Bush scored more runs than him in 2012. As a Junior he played in the same side as former England batsman Mark Ramprakash and has stayed with the club he joined in the late 1970s. He is a hard hitting middle order batsman that hits the ball all around the ground. He is brutal against all types of bowling but is particularly savage against spin bowling. He is the best sweepers of a ball at the club, he is able to play all manner of sweep shots hitting the ball all around the leg side. He has scored 15 centuries for the Borough over the years including a Twenty20 hundred in a Mayor of Harrow game at Pinner coming in at number 5.
As a bowler he started off as a canny off break bowler but his greatest success was as a medium pace seamer for the first and second elevens. Always bowling full and straight, Geezer always concurred with the saying ‘they miss and you hit’. He has plenty of variation and has been a regular wicket taker. Due a shoulder injury which has worsened in recent seasons, Geezer decided to retire from bowling in 2012.
