Role: Right Handed Middle Order Batsman & Wicket-keeper
Nickname: Whitto
Barbarians No: 79
Wayne joined the Borough before the start of the 2008 season after moving from Lydney in Gloucestershire to Hertfordshire to live with his wife Vicky. Whitto had been a regular in the Lydney first team and played against us for many years during the Borough’s infamous tours of Wales and the West Country.
A classical batsman, Wayne has adjusted well to his new role in the middle order since joining in 2008. At Lydney he was used mainly as an opening batsman, but the Borough required him to fill a gap in a sometime fragile middle order. He is a very good player of fast bowling and he is very capable of working the spinners into gaps, he scored a match winning hundred at Wycombe House in his debut season, a result that effectively ended our relegation worries. It was a knock of pure skill and concentration.
As a keeper, Whitto is one of the best in the League and certainly one of the best keepers that the club has had in recent memory. He excels standing up and has taken some extraordinary stumpings down the legside of some of our medium pacers.
