Weekend Preview v Old Actonians & Paddington
24 Apr 2012
WEEKEND PREVIEW
By James Wheeler
Hopefully the season for the club can start properly this weekend with games on Saturday for our first and second eleven’s against Old Actonians and on Sunday we take on wandering side Paddington at Headstone Manor.
Batsman Danny Hawes takes charge of our first eleven for the first time as we host Old Actonians first eleven at our Headstone Manor ground on Saturday, 1pm start. Hopefully Danny will get a good chance to look at some of the younger guys who’s cricket has really come on in the last 18 months while he was travelling.
Teenage seamer Neal Patel has really progressed in recent seasons and his batting has come on leaps and bounds over the winter and he will look to impress with both bat and ball in his hand. Wicket-Keeper batsman Will Grogan also came on in 2011 and a big season will also be expected of him. Akshay Hirani is another young bowler who much will be expected this season.
Allrounder Nirav Ghantiwala was unavailable for large parts of 2011 and his return along with that of our captain should boost our first eleven and hopefully lead our promotion push back to the Middlesex Cricket League.
Our second eleven, led by Phil Bush travel over to Ealing to take on Actonians second eleven. As with the first eleven, it will be an excellent chance to get an early look at Actonians as both first and second eleven’s face them in our second League game of the season on May 19.
Big performances in 2012 are expected from our batters as although they scored runs last season, they need to be more consistent. Runs for Bush, Parker and Carr can hopefully lead our second eleven to promotion. With the ball, leading bowlers in 2011, Jay Chavda and Mitesh Vyas will again be expected to have good seasons.
On Sunday’s the Kimsey boys swap sides and put on another set of colours for our annual game against wandering side Paddington. Paddington are much stronger than a lot of wandering sides and thus should also provide excellent match practise.
