Dan's The Man With Opening Win

20 May 2012

FIRST WIN FOR DANNY
By James Wheeler

Danny Hawes reign as club captain started with a win at Old Actonians on Saturday afternoon. Its amazing to think that it has taken until May 20th for Dan to get his chance to lead the Borough but when he did he certainly made up for the wait leading us to a comprehensive 8 wicket win.

After sending Actonians in on a cloudy and overcast afternoon, our opening bowlers Ian Barrie and Nirav Ghantiwala started brilliantly, beating the bat on numerous occasions and both dismissing an opening batsman each. Our bowlers kept a lot of pressure on Actonians, rarely allowing them to score freely and constantly picking up wickets. Patel was the only Actonians batsman to post a score reaching 57. Old Acts eventually crept to 167 for 9 off 55 overs, Ramesh Gunalan was the pick of our bowlers picking up 3-24, Ian Barrie and Rohan Karkhanis both picked up 2 wickets each.

In our reply, openers Hawes and Gunalan got off to a steady start putting on 35 before Gunalan was bowled by opening bowler Swan. Ian Barrie then joined his captainand the pair put on a match winning partnership of 74 with both players scoring freely and playing some excellent shots all around the ground. Hawes was eventually out for 40 with us needing only 59 and teenage wicket-keeper Will Grogan joined Barrie and the pair saw us home comfortably to an 8 wicket win with IB scoring 80 not out.

Next weekend sees us travel less than a mile down the road to Old Lyonians which sees a first meeting between the clubs in a long time.

Scorecard

IB led the way with 80 not out in a comfortable Borough win
