BOROUGH BLOW AWAY OSTERLEY
Ian Barrie and Ramesh Gunalan were the stars as Bessborough first eleven picked up their second win of the season with a dominant 10 wicket victory over Headstone Manor last Saturday. Bessborough blasted out Osterley for 90 and chased the runs in only 25 overs without losing a single wicket.
Everything went right on the day for captain Danny Hawes after he won the toss on an overcast afternoon at Bessborough’s Headstone Manor ground. Opening bowlers Ian Barrie and Nirav Ghantiwala quickly reduced Osterley to 30-5 with a mixture ofexcellent swing bowling, good fielding and some erratic batting.
Osterley managed to rebuild their innings and eventually managed to creep up to 90 all out with their number four batsman Rizvi ending 40 not out. Barrie eventually finished with figures of 5-40 while Ghantiwala and Gunalan both picked up 2 wickets each.
Borough opening batsman Hawes and Gunalan batted positively from ball one finding the correct balance between attack and defence as the Osterley bowlers strived for an important early breakthrough. Both players gave the odd chance but all in all they both batted beautifully with the Borough reaching their target in under 26 overs, just before 5pm with Gunalan finishing with 63 and Hawes with 32.
Next weekBessborough face local rivals Old Lyonians at Headstone Manor with the Borough looking to avenge their defeat 2 weeks ago.
KIMSEY CRUSHES EDMONTON
Bessborough 2's headed to Edmonton looking to put last weeks poor showwith the bat behind them, however after being asked to bat first they foundthemselves 68 for 5 after 18 overs. Thankfully 2 great partnerships from the lower order meant there was to be no repeat ! No 7 Eranda Jayasinghe (43) joined skipper Phil Bush (76) as the pair added 80, both were then dismissed and Borough, whilst in a better position, were still a below par 162 for 8. Steve Kimsey (56*) was then joined by his son Steve Jnr (26) ,together the pair added 71 to knock the stuffing out of Edmonton and the pair propelled The Borough to 249 for 9 in 50 overs. Rohan Desai removed Edmonton's opener in the first over, butthis was to be no walk in the park for the Borough. Chairman Nitin Modha (4-74) struck regular blows but Edmonton's positive batting style meant they were always up with the rate. With light fading it was left to veteran Steve Kimsey Snr (3- 17) to take the man of the match honours by taking the final wicket with just 13 balls left as Edmonton were dismissed for 227
COLTS HEROICS TAKESTHIRDS HOME
Saahil Vora struck an unbeaten 79 to guide the 3rd XI to victory against table toppers MTSCC. Having elected to field the visitors were kept to a verygettable 174 and Vora took the side home with some support from Thanusan and Alex Irani both scoring 29 to get the 3s over the mark.
EMANUEL TONKS TURNHAM GREEN
Richard Ward’s reign as stand in captain for the 4s got off to the perfect start as the Bessborough completed a clean sweep from Saturday’s game. Mark Emanuel smashed 143 as they comfortably chased 204 at Turnham Green. The game also marked Tim Hawescoming out of retirement but his son Sammy stole the limelight with an unbeaten21 to see them over the line.
