WEEKEND PREVIEW
By James Wheeler
Saturday sees the 2015 season begin with our traditional curtain raiser against neighbours Pinner at our Headstone Manor ground. Our preseason campaign is important in giving our captains an early look at new players, as well as giving ample opportunities to current members to get into form and impress.
2015 will be a big season for Pinner as they have moved leagues and will now compete in the Chiltern League for the coming season. With this in mind their captain Daniel Langham has asked if they may play 13 players on Saturday with only 11 batting and fielding.
Our captain Rohan Karkhanis will probably look for a more a traditional approach and will select a normal 11 to start this season. The competitive games will come thick and fast with a Middlesex Cup Preliminary game against Kay Plus this Sunday which is then followed by a Royal London Knockout home game against Harpenden the following week.
We will be looking for a repeat of the last 2 seasons when we have started the summer of cricket with wins over Pinner.
The result
a year ago saw us beat our neighbours by 148 runs at Headstone Manor. Standout performances with the bat were made by Ian Barrie (72) and Vivek Patel (64*) and Sharuban Kanthasamy (4-15) and club captain Rohan Karkhanis (3-11) with the ball.
In 2013
, the experienced Andy Carr struck a brilliant 96 as we made 228-4 off our 40 overs before our spin twins of Nitin Modha and Karkhanis claimed 6 wickets between them to inspire a 61 run victory.
On Sunday we take on a Harrow based Kay Plus in the Preliminary Round of the Middlesex Cup. This is the first time in a few years that we have competed in this competition and it should provide excellent match practise before the league campaign starts in a months time.
