BESSBOROUGHCC.COM PLAYER OF THE MONTH - JUNE
By Simon Heaney
There were a number of strong candidates for the Bessboroughcc.com Player of the Month for June.
Rajan Modha
continued to bully teams for the Barbarians, including the Twenty20 side's first ever century (104) against Northwood on 18 June. Rajan scored 254 runs in the month at an average of 31.75. All but 27 of those runs were for the Barbarians.
Ian Barrie
staked a late claim for the award with a 73 for the First Eleven against Harrow Town on 20 June, which he then followed up the week after against Kenton with a powerful 108. Ian's total of 195 runs in June came at an average of 65.
In the end we couldn't split our two front-runners so we had to give the award jointly to
Nitin Modha
and
James Wheeler
.
Nitin picked up 17 wickets in June at an average of 18.70. His tally includes three 5-wicket hauls, two for the Second Eleven (5-78 v Wembley and 5-65 v Harrow) and one for the First XI (5-105 v Kenton).
Wheels hit a rich vein of form in June, scoring heavily for the Third Eleven as well as chipping in with runs for the Barbarians and the Sunday Eleven. Wheels plundered a total of 394 runs at an average of 56.28. In competitive cricket he scored 271 runs (ave 90.33) with a top score and personal best of 159 not out for the Third Eleven versus Finchley on 20 June.
James has since gone on to become the first Bessborough player to pass 500 runs for the season with 80 against the 1987 Cricket League representative team on 1 July.
