Matty makes a return to the club in 2012 after not playing a game in 2011 and as Geezer remarked ‘Matty must be the only person who attended more working parties than play games in 2011’. He had a couple of excellent seasons batting at number 3 and 4 in the second eleven under Ed’s captaincy.
Matty is a dashing middle order batsman who is happy batting anywhere in the order apart from opening the batting. He plays shots all round the wicket and is a fine striker of the ball. Matty is the type of player who scores quickly without ever looking in a rush. He is however a poor starter of innings, but if he gets in he tends to go on and score some big runs.
He also is an excellent fielder at point or at cover and is a useful medium pace bowler who is particularly useful at bowling at ‘the death’.
