Borough smashed by HSM in cup
Bessborough were given a sound thrashing at local rivals Harrow St. Mary’s as for the second-year running they exited the Royal London Club Championship at the first hurdle.
The game had started pretty well for the visitors to HSM’s ground, a few hundred yards further up Headstone Lane from Bessborough’s Headstone Manor base, when Rajan Modha ran out opener Ruparella before he had faced a ball and seamer Jay Chavda (2-28) claimed two more early wickets.
However, HSM captain Tom Pettet came to his side’s rescue with a brilliant 118, ably supported by Kunj Thakkar (57). HSM finished their 45 overs with an imposing 273 for 8. Sherrick Chavda grabbed some late wickets to finish with the best bowling figures of 3-56.
Bessborough’s reply started terribly with Phil Bush bowled by the very first ball and wickets continued to tumble as the away side slumped to 65-6. All-rounder Vivek Patel (pictured) with a classy 55 and captain Rohan Karkhanis with 36 added a measure of respectability to the score as Bessborough closed out 120 runs behind their hosts.
On a chilly Saturday, a mixed side captained by 3rd team skipper Ian Ridley visited Knebworth Park’s picturesque ground in Hertfordshire, which despite a five-wicket loss provided a good workout for some players, old and new.
Highlights for Bessborough included a half-century by Bhavin Kakkad (54), and solid forties from Kibreeth Rameez (40) and Ian Barrie (44). New player Shaji Jacob was the pick of the bowlers with 2-23.
Knebworth’s more in-depth review of the game can be found here.
Bessborough will hope to iron out some of the winter rust next weekend when the 1s and 2s take on Harrow in the final friendlies before league competition starts, while the 3s and 4s will go head-to-head on the top pitch at Headstone Manor.
