Player of the Month - July 2015
12 Aug 2015
BESSBOROUGHCC.COM PLAYER OF THE MONTH - JULY
By Simon Heaney
The selection of the Bessboroughcc.com Player of the Month for July was more straightforward than it was in June when we had to split the award, but nonetheless there were a number of players who put themselves into contention.
New member
Bhavin Kakkad
has made a great start to his Bessborough career, scoring 134 runs in his first three innings at an average of 44.67. His highest score in July was 85 for the Barbarians versus North Harrow.
Vivek Patel's
batting average for July was 52.33, thanks to two big innings - 80* for the Barbarians v Northwood Town on 14 July (his best for the club) and a more significant 73 for the Second XI in their win at Kenton on 4 July.
The leading wicket-taker in the month was Third XI skipper
Ian Ridley
who claimed 18 victims in total - 12 for the Barbarians and six for the 3s. Ridley also helped his cause by scoring 118 runs (23.60 average) with a best of 47 for the Third XI against South Hampstead on 4 July.
Special mention needs to be made to First XI captain
Rohan Karkhanis
for his 7 for 43 against North London on 11 July, which are his best figures for the club so far.
Having considered all of the contenders one player really stood out -
James Wheeler
, who becomes the first ever player to win the monthly award more than once after sharing it last month with
Nitin Modha
.
'Wheels' continued where he left off in June (394 runs @ 56.28) with another 319 runs plundered in July at an average of 53.17. The bulk of his runs came in three innings; 80 against the 1987 League representative side on 1 July, 63 for the Barbarians against RAF Northolt on 8 July, and 133 for the Third XI in a crucial promotion game versus North London on 25 July.
The century against North London was his second of the season and helped push his season tally up to 805 runs @47.35 at the time of writing. Unfortunately, James' work commitments at Sky Sports will make it difficult to reach the cherished 1,000-run milestone for the season although with him due to play a couple more games it could still be on.
